Sweeten up your plain yogurt

Who wants to eat plain yogurt?!?!? However, the sugar in flavored yogurt can be high.  What is a girl to do?!?! 

- Stir in some honey, agave, maple syrup or some stevia 
- experiment with flavor extracts such as coconut, maple, rum or vanilla 

These mix ins are also great for oatmeal, quinoa, shakeology, and other foods that might need a little extra flavor!

Going Gluten Free

After lots of research and some serious soul searching.  We have made the decision to start reducing the amount of gluten products we buy and use at our house.  My 4 year old son has always had problems with digestion, bloating and constipation.  It wasn't until recently that I realized that we may have a bigger problem on our hands.  Since October, my son has had 14 cavities in his teeth!!!  CRAZY!!!!  Before you jump to conclusions,  I don't buy juice, the kids are limited on their sugary drinks, and they drink mostly water.  In fact, my 4 year old picks water over other drinks more so than my older 3 kids.  I am still the one that brushes my 4 year olds teeth.  I know his teeth are being taken care of.  I recently read that a gluten intolerance or sensitivity can lead to an increase in tooth decay.  So, we are giving it a try! Along with some other natural remedies known to reverse tooth decay (coconut oil, homemade re mineralization toothpaste, fermented cod liver oil, vitamin D....I told you I did my research), we are going to try being more conscious of gluten usage at my house.

Is anyone in my blog following gluten free?  I would love to hear your tips and advice!

Skip the Mayo and try this...

Lunch! Turkey and avocado on sugar free whole wheat bread, Yes, I eat bread. I stick with whole grain or sprouted grain breads, and I don't have bread too often 😀. Here's a tip for making a healthier sandwich. Skip the mayo!!! Try using hummus or avocado as a spread. Both are better options and will add a lot of flavor to your sandwich.

My sincerest Thank you to those that follow my blog and my Facebook page, and share it with others. YOU have truly made a difference in my life!

There are moments in life where you just wonder how you manage to keep it all together. For the past few years, I have had many of those moments. Little did I know that my decision to become a fitness coach last July would not only provide me with a truly rewarding opportunity to help others, but it is helping to stabilize our finances. I wanted to thank all of you that have been supporting my journey...the past few months, I have been able to turn up the heat in our house to a decent temperature (even with the additional crazy polar vortex cold we were getting), and still manage to pay the gas bill, without feeling it wiped out our entire bank account.

I have lost over 60 pounds in 3 years...and I am still going. Does that sound impressive? The 60 pounds part probably does. But the 3 years part doesn't sound that impressive. Why is this a big deal? I will tell ya....


It took me over 15 YEARS to put on my extra weight. I would be CRAZY to think that there would be a quick solution to getting it all back off. Sure, I could have lost all that weight in 6 months. There are ways to do it. However, many times people jump into a quick weight loss solution and lose the weight. Then when the program ends, they revert to their old habits and GAIN the weight back! I didn't want to do that. I wanted to lose it and KEEP IT OFF!!! In the past 3 years, I have made small changes to my lifestyle. A little bit at a time, so that I would make those changes a habit. Small changes, like - GIVING UP POP!!! I used to drink 2 or 3 cans a day. Now, I may drink it on very rare occasion, but I usually look for other options. 

Because I made each change a habit before starting a new change, they STUCK WITH ME. I have maintained my weight loss throughout my journey. For the most part, I have NOT felt deprived! I get to celebrate birthdays with cake. I will eat the entire bag of chips on occasion. I even have the occasional meal at McDonald's (**gasp**). They key is that 80% of the time I make those good choices, so that the other 20% of the time, I can splurge and truly ENJOY some of my favorite things.

I may or may not have found an unopened bag of Dark Chocolate covered Almonds...I may or may not have opened said bag. I may or may not have eaten all 4 servings.

It is dark chocolate and almonds....they are both healthy...how bad could that be, right? I am sure that was a significantly better choice than eating an entire bag of potato chips.

Buffalo Cauliflower Bites

Buffalo Cauliflower Bites

I LOVE buffalo sauce!!  I can't wait to try this healthy dish!!

Buffalo Cauliflower Bites
INGREDIENTS
1 head of cauliflower, cut into bite size pieces
1/2 c buttermilk
1/2 c flour
1 tsp garlic salt
1/2 c buffalo sauce (I love Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Wings Sauce!)
1 tbsp butter, melted

GARNISHES
bleu cheese dressing
celery and/or carrots

STEPS
~Preheat oven to 350º.
~In a large bowl whisk together buttermilk, flour, and garlic salt until smooth. (If the batter seems too thick add more buttermilk a tablespoon at a time. You want it to be slightly thick so that it sticks to the cauliflower. If it is too runny the batter will all drip off while baking.)
~Place the cauliflower into the bowl of batter and gently toss to coat.
~Spread the battered cauliflower out on a greased baking dish making sure to shake off any excess batter.
~Bake for 20–25 minutes turning once until some of the edges turn a nice golden color.
~While the cauliflower is baking combine the buffalo sauce and melted butter in a small bowl.
~Remove the cauliflower from the oven and drizzle the buffalo sauce mixture over the top and toss to coat.
~Return the cauliflower to the oven and bake for an additional 5–10 minutes.
~Remove the finished cauliflower from the oven and plate with some fresh veggies and a side of bleu cheese dressing.

For your first set, you'll complete each exercise for 20 reps. For your second set, you'll complete each exercise for 18 reps. You'll continue by reducing by 2 reps every set until you get to 0 or your 5 minutes is up—whichever happens first. Confused? This chart will clear things up.

** The secret sauce: efficiency. You'll alternate between two exercises (detailed below), consecutively. No rest between sets and reps! 

Warning: You may find it super difficult or impossible to get all the way down to zero on your first attempt. But that's the beauty of it! The next time you try it, you'll most likely get a little further along.

Chocolate Shakeology Peanut Butter Cup

Chocolate and peanut butter...and it is healthy?!?!? That's it. I'm SOLD!


Chocolate and peanut butter...and it is healthy?!?!?  That's it.  I'm SOLD!

Chocolate Shakeology Peanut Butter Cup
Recipe:
4 tbsp Chocolate Shakeology
2 tbsp unrefined organic coconut oil
4 tbsp chocolate PB2
2 tbsp water
3 mini cupcake foils

In a small microwavable bowl, add 2 tbsp coconut oil.  Microwave for about 35 seconds.

Add in the Chocolate Shakeology and stir until mixed.

In a separate bowl add the PB2 plus a little water, and stir (if too thin, add a little more PB2).

In the cupcake foils, spoon about 1 tsp chocolate shakeology mixture, to cover the bottom of the foils.

Next add about 1 tsp of the PB2 mixture. To that, coat the tops with another layer of the Chocolate Shakeology.

Pop in the freezer for about 5-10 minutes.
