Transformation Thursday: Jennifer

Transformation Thursday: Jennifer F. lost 32 pounds and won $500 using Turbofire and Shakeology.

Here is Jennifer's story: I’ve been overweight my whole life. As a kid I was constantly teased and called names like “chubby cheeks.” Unlike other kids I grew up with, I never outgrew my “pudge” (as I like to call it). In college I was fortunate enough to not gain the “freshman fifteen” but ate on a budget and over time my weight continued to rise. I refused to put on a bathing suit, dress up to go out, or buy clothes. And while I hated being overweight, I didn’t ever do anything about it. I never worked out and pretty much only ate fast food and drank diet pop, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that I eventually ballooned up to 183 pounds.

At a recent physical I got some very unsettling news. My weight was at an all-time high, and if I didn't start making changes soon, my doctor was going to put me on meds for high cholesterol and triglycerides. There was no way I was going to let that happen at such a young age. I’m an adult. I’m in charge of me. And it was finally time to take control of my health once and for all. And to help me not quit, I signed up for a Challenge Group.

I chose TurboFire because I'd already done Turbo Jam and fell in love with Chalene Johnson. The HIIT training combined with the sculpting, toning, and stretching was especially appealing to me because I just began playing ice hockey as a goalie in the fall of 2012. I figured TurboFire would be the most fun way to get in shape, plus I knew she'd have awesome music. I love TurboFire’s variety of workouts including the EZ modes and "New to Class" features. And right when you think you can't do any more, Chalene shouts out: “Guess what? You’re not tired!” or “You’re getting your second wind!”

Not only have I seen physical changes through my progress photos (so glad I took them) but I can feel the difference in how my clothes fit. And when I put my hands on my hips I love the fact that my love handles have significantly shrunk. I'm so proud of myself for making it to day 90 despite some health and emotional challenges. My eating habits have significantly improved, my self-esteem is so much higher, and it feels great when I get compliments from others.

I haven't been this weight in at least 5 years, and have never been more motivated to lead a healthy lifestyle while encouraging others to do the same. I believe that I can achieve great things and create the healthy and fit body, mind, and soul that I desire—and more importantly, deserve. Beachbody has given me the tools, support, and accountability I struggled to find for so many years, and what a difference that has made. I love my coaching team and my new friends, and I know they'll be there every step of the way moving forward. Look out world, I’m ready to take the next step in my weight loss journey, and there's no one or nothing that can stop me!

Tell me something Tuesday: My Kids

I have 4 kids - you probably know that because you follow my Blog . I find it amazing how each one is so different, yet they all essentially have the same genetic make up.

My only daughter is the oldest. She is is extremely well behaved (and always has been). She is motherly and always treats people in a respectful and kind way. She is really smart and creative. She always thinks outside of the box, and she is a WHIZ at math - currently a whole grade level ahead of her peers! I sometimes forget that she is only 11 because she really is the best helper any mom could wish for.

My oldest son is 9, and his mind is ALWAYS thinking. If you get him talking, look out because he isn't going to stop anyway soon....and he will talk to you with such excitement. He's always been like that! He has an excellent memory and loves to share with you all of the facts he learns from documentaries that he enjoys watching. He is amazing at creating new inventions or figuring out how things work. I am sure he will grow up to be some sort of engineer (his grandpas will both be proud if he does).

My 6 year old, middle son is the sweetest, biggest hearted child you will ever meet. He is sensitive and extremely caring. He loves to do everything his older brother and sister do, and will often pester them until they let him join in. Even though he is only in first grade, I can tell that he is going to be good at math, like his sister. Numbers just seem to make sense to him. Of all of my kids, he is the shyest and most quiet.

My youngest is a whole different ball game!!! He is 3 and he definitely knows he's the "baby" and if he doesn't want to get lost in the shuffle, he has to make sure he is heard. He is...ummm...WILLFUL. That is putting it politely. He definitely likes things done a certain way and is easily upset if they are not done to his liking. Under no certain terms will anything happen until HE IS READY - like potty training, or sleeping though the nigh...which he still isn't doing. sigh.....

I love my kids. they keep me on my toes, and challenge me daily - sometimes more that i would like . They are my pride and joy, and I wouldn't trade them for anything!!!

Make it permenant

THE BEST ADVICE EVER!!! It took me a REALLY LONG time to learn that having an expiration date with your eating plan only means you will fall back into old habits...every single time. If you make your eating plan a lifestyle change, you will be more likely to maintain your goals once you have reached them. That doesn't mean you can't indulge every once in awhile, it just means that 90% of the time you eat healthy and make better choices. Doing that makes that other 10% so worth the wait too!!!

A little OSU history - Brutus Buckeye

In case you haven't seen it on this Blog before, I am graduate of The Ohio State University, and a huge buckeye fan!  On occasion, I like to share things that are not related to fitness and nutrition, but are about other things that I enjoy......
A little OSU history - Brutus Buckeye

One of the more visible symbols of Ohio State athletics is Brutus Buckeye, the school's mascot. In 1965, an art student designed and introduced the first Brutus, while the name was chosen in a contest. The mascot began as a hardened papier mache affair that looked like a bowling ball with legs. In 1975, a radical new Brutus was designed with a prune-like head and a man's body. That attempt was booed off the field and was re-worked, giving way to a mascot comparable to the beloved present-day Brutus.

The original choices for Ohio State's mascot included a ram, an elk, a moose and the leading candidate, a male deer. Due to the skittish nature of deer, the idea of a mascot was tabled until January 1941 when "Chris," a German police dog owned by an assistant cheerleader, made an appearance at a basketball game. The dog's career was short-lived and OSU remained without an official mascot until the 1960s.

Stressed? Then exercise!!

Exercise reverses the detrimental effects of stress by increasing levels of "soothing" brain chemicals like serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. Plus, exercise may actually work on a cellular level to reverse stress's toll on our aging process!! Researchers found that stressed-out women who exercised vigorously for an average of 45 minutes over a three-day period had cells that showed fewer signs of aging compared to women who were stressed and inactive.

Now that you are armed with that information, go out and exercise NOW!!

Transformation Thursday: Donna

Meet Donna L.! She participated in The Beachbody Challenge and won the $500 Daily Prize for August 12th! Way to go Donna!!!

Here is her story:
I’ve spent the last decade on thyroid medication, have battled severe bouts of clinical depression, and have been almost completely disabled for years due to fibromyalgia and inflammatory arthritis. And if that wasn’t enough, my most recent diagnosis was type 2 diabetes. In early 2012, I decided I could no longer live in this ill state of health and that it was time to finally do something. I knew I had to change because my body was giving out and I still had children to raise and grandchildren to enjoy. My doctors have been telling me for years that one of the best ways to manage many of my ailments was through eating clean and exercise, but I brushed their comments off and called the doctors crazy. I really thought that my medical issues made it IMPOSSIBLE to have the energy to change my diet or get any exercise—little did I know at the time how completely wrong I was.

My transformation all began one day when I saw a commercial for P90X that showed a guy who started the program weighing over 300 lbs. and I thought, “If he can do it, I certainly can!” All I wanted was to lose weight and not feel like a big blob of fat, but what I got in return was so much more. So I did P90X off and on as well as the elliptical machine at the gym, plus I started drinking green smoothies that I made at home—and for a while that worked, but then I hit a plateau that lasted four very long months. I needed something to get me over the hump. But what? I had no idea what to do, but thankfully, Molly, a Beachbody Coach, had the answer.

I joined Molly’s LES MILLS COMBAT Challenge Group and started drinking Shakeology daily, and after just one week I broke through my plateau, lost 8 lbs., and after the first month, I saw my body actually changing shape. My waist was getting slimmer, for the first time ever, and I could actually see definition in my abs!

Not only did COMBAT whip me into shape, Shakeology played a big part in my transformation as well. You see, I’ve been held hostage by terrible food cravings most of my life! They ruled me. Nothing I could do would make them go away—until Shakeology. Now I drink it every single day and don’t crave the things I used to. Before, my body was starved for nutrients, but now it’s finally being fed the stuff it needs. Plus, my Coach helped me realize how much time, and money, Shakeology saves me. I am amazed at how it makes me feel!

Now that I’m down 72 pounds (and almost as many inches) sometimes I don't even recognize myself in the mirror. I went from 258 lbs. to 186 and dropped 5 pant sizes. Today I’m an active, almost-50 year old woman who has fought fibromyalgia and won! The new me is healthy, (getting) slim, and active. I no longer have diabetes, am off almost all prescription medications, and have hope for my future. I’ve no longer resigned myself to growing old at a young age and believe that I’ll live long enough to meet my GREAT grandchildren!

Today, eating healthy and working out is just part of my daily life. I just started month two of Focus T-25—who knew I could do that!? And, I just signed up to run my second 5K in October! I was fat and sick for years. But not anymore. Thanks Beachbody.

Beachbody Spotlight: RevAbs

RevAbs is an innovative home workout program that combines cardio and strength training with a unique form of ab work. It’s specifically designed to burn off the fat and give you a six-pack in just 90 days. With RevAbs, you work the abdominal muscles from six different angles for a smaller waist and toned midsection. Added interval-training techniques burn fat at the highest rate possible.

Why is it effective? With creator Brett Hoebel’s Abcentrics method, you do full-body cardio and strength training in addition to ab work, but you “fire” your abs during every movement. That means you’re toning and tightening your abs the whole time. You get faster and more balanced results than you could from crunches alone, or from any “ab machine” on the market. RevAbs includes plenty of strength training and cardio intervals to boost your metabolism and scorch calories. You define your abs and get rid of fat to reveal a great-looking midsection.

What makes RevAbs unique? Unlike other ab programs, RevAbs works the abdominal muscles from very
angle, which helps create a strong, tight core. And it teaches you to keep your abs activated during strength training and cardio exercises, so you can continue building your six-pack while burning off the fat that keeps it from showing through. The program is partly based on capoeira, a dance-like Afro-Brazilian martial art that includes aspects of acrobatics and kickboxing. Its fluid full-body movements make it a refreshing change from old-fashioned ab workouts.

Currently, RevAbs retails for $89.95, and comes with everything you need to get started! Or save $60, when you buy it along with a 30 day supply of Shakeology in a Beach Body Challenge Pack!! You can get yours here

Tell Me something Tuesday: Confession Time

I get almost giddy, if I am carded when I buy alcohol. It used to be annoying, but once I hit that magical age of 30, I like the confirmation that I might not look as old as I feel! LOL!

This past weekend, I was in the check out line at the grocery with my husband and 3 year old. We had a handful of things we picked up, including a bottle of wine. I was turned around paying attention to my little one, when my husband said, "honey, they need to see your ID." I didn't hesitate to get it, but as I was opening my wallet, the cashier says, "I always card anyone that looks like they might be under 27." Yup, that definitely made this 36 year old feel good!

Noelle K.
Lost 40 pounds and 38 inches in one year using Slim in Six, Les Mills Combat, Les Mills Pump, and Insanity.

Her story:
August 2012 was a turning point for me—I’d just had a baby, so I should have been at an all-time high. But I wasn’t, because my weight was at an all-time high. And when I discovered that I could no longer touch my toes—it hit me like a ton of bricks... I had to change. Fast.

So I made a promise to myself—and my two kids—then backed it up by starting Slim in 6®. I chose it because it was low impact, which I needed because I’d just had a C-Section. In just weeks, I lost over 20 pounds.

After Slim in 6, I wanted to keep going—and have some fun, so I started LES MILLS COMBAT®. All I can say is LOVE, LOVE LOVE. Then I added Les Mills Pump® to get a leaner look... and after finishing, I’m now doing INSANITY®. Wow. The results I’ve achieved are amazing. I’ve lost 40 pounds and 38 inches!!!! I can touch my toes, I’ve got the abs I never thought I’d get after my C-Section. I feel better and healthier than I have my entire life.

And I actually weigh the same as I did when I was a teenager. Can you believe that?
Thanks to Beachbody, I was able to achieve my fitness goals. So I’ve decided to “pay it forward” by becoming a Beachbody Coach. Now I’ve got the best job in the world, working for a company I totally believe in, and helping other people reach their goals.
Before Beachbody, I was at an all-time low. So I went looking for a solution, and never did I think I would find this amazing light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks Beachbody. It just goes to show what you can achieve if you’re willing to “Push Play.”

Beachbody Spotlight: Turbo Jam

What is it?  Turbo Jam is an in-home fitness program that combines kickboxing, dancing, and body sculpting moves to help you burn calories and tone muscles.  Trainer Chalene Johnson teaches you her signature “Elite 11” moves, then uses them in a variety of ways to raise your heart rate and keep it elevated so you burn the most fat. The workouts are set to high-energy dance music that feels more like a party than exercise.

Why is it effective?  Turbo Training is a technique that adds intensity to the workouts and increases the calorie burn. In the middle of each workout you do a short, supercharged cardio interval, which increases your aerobic capacity and is one of the most effective ways to burn fat and calories.  Chalene’s signature moves are easy to follow. They target specific muscle groups or body parts to strengthen and sculpt your entire physique, with special emphasis on your abs and core. The workouts can be done by anyone at any fitness level.

What makes Turbo Jam unique?  Turbo Jam is a combination of martial arts-style training and dancing. Chalene’s fun, motivating personality makes the workouts upbeat and energetic. The addition of Turbos (high-intensity intervals) improves your fitness while increasing your calorie burn. And when you use the Turbo Sculpting Gloves, you can raise the intensity even higher.

Turbo Jam retails for $29.95 and includes 5 workouts, tools for tracking your results, and 4 bonus gifts!!  Or buy it as a Challenge Pack with a bag of Shakeology, and save $50 off the retail price!  You can get yours here

Tell me something Tuesday: History

I LOVE history! I think it is so interesting to see how the human race has learned from past victories and mistakes. To see how the world and our ideas evolve and change over time. I even have a Bachelors in History from Ohio State University. My kids think it is a bit obnoxious to have to do their homeschool History classes with me - I am the worst when it comes to going off on a tangent, when I teach it. Even my vacations are usually historical in nature. My Absolute favorite vacation? Going to Washington D.C. and visiting all of the historical sites and learning (over and over) about the formation of this amazing country we live in!

What are you passionate about?

**The photo was taken last summer. That is me trying to intently listen to the tour guide at the United States Capitol building...while my 2 youngest children are clearly NOT interested. LOL!

Drink more water

I am always posting reminders about the importance of drinking water. Want the real scoop of WHY it is so important? Here you go....

Water makes up more than two thirds of human body weight, and without water, we would die in a few days. The human brain is made up of 95% water, blood is 82% and lungs 90%. A mere 2% drop in our body's water supply can trigger signs of dehydration: fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on smaller print, such as a computer screen. (Are you having trouble reading this? Drink up!) Mild dehydration is also one of the most common causes of daytime fatigue. An estimated seventy-five percent of Americans have mild, chronic dehydration. Pretty scary statistic for a developed country where water is readily available through the tap or bottle water.
Water is important to the mechanics of the human body. The body cannot work without it, just as a car cannot run without gas and oil. In fact, all the cell and organ functions that make up our entire anatomy and physiology depend on water for their functioning.Water is important to the mechanics of the human body. How do you make sure you are getting ENOUGH water? Take your body weight and then divide it in half. That is how many ounces water you should aim to drink per day. Bored with your water? Try infused water! This web link will give you some great infused water ideas!!infused-water-recipes/c1jm3

Transformation Thursday: Melanie

By simply changing her eating habits for 21 days, Melanie lost 17 lbs. with Ultimate Reset!!!
I’ve always enjoyed working out, but could never get my eating habits in check, which is why I was overweight.
After going through a tough time in my personal life, I had pretty much given up on myself and was deeply depressed. I was eating horribly and gained a lot of weight. I knew things had to change, but I was completely overwhelmed on where to start and what to do, so for a long time I did nothing. Then I discovered the Ultimate Reset and decided it was finally time to get a handle on my horrible diet.

My biggest challenge was portion control and not eating out of boredom. I knew that in order to really succeed with the changes that I wanted to make in my body, and in my life, that I needed to overcome my bad eating habits. I knew I wasn’t fueling my body properly to get the max results from my workouts and the Ultimate Reset showed me exactly what I should be eating, how much, and how often. The structure of the program showed me just how much I was eating out of boredom and that my portion sizes were WAY off!

One of the best things about doing the Reset was that I was introduced to a ton of new recipes that were simply amazing! I learned a lot about which foods I should eat and how to easily make delicious and healthy meals. I never felt like I was being deprived of anything—the meal plan blew me away!

In just 21 days my life changed so much. I lost 17 pounds and almost 16 inches overall. I still have a hard time believing it! I sleep better and wake feeling more rested. I have more energy and have never felt more alive. Today I have a completely different relationship with food. I have a renewed energy and feel better than I ever have—which has spilled over into every aspect of my life. I’m a more positive person and even my friends and family have noticed a huge difference in my overall outlook. I’m excited to continue on my journey and help as many people as I can along the way—the way my amazing Coach, Adrianne, helped me.

Now when I go grocery shopping I make better choices and when I go out to eat I make MUCH better choices. The thing I’m most proud of is that even after finishing the Reset, I’ve continued making the great recipes while keeping my portion sizes under control. And in doing so I’ve continued to lose more weight. Doing the Ultimate Reset has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and has been a complete GAME CHANGER for me! Now that I know more about proper nutrition I have the foundation I need to live a healthy life. Thanks Beachbody!
